Technical Requirements for SEO Training
Before joining our programs, let's make sure your setup can handle what we'll be working with. Most people already have what they need, but it's worth checking the specifics so you're not troubleshooting tech issues when you should be learning about search algorithms.
Real-World Setup Example
This is what a typical workspace looks like during our training sessions. You don't need multiple monitors, but having enough screen space to view documentation while working in tools makes things easier.
System Requirements Breakdown
Here's what you actually need versus what's just nice to have. We've tested these specs with previous students, so they're based on real usage patterns rather than theoretical minimums.
| Component | Minimum Requirement | Why It Matters | Recommended |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operating System | Windows 10, macOS 11, Ubuntu 20.04 | Most SEO tools are browser-based, but some analytics software has specific OS requirements | Latest stable versions for security updates |
| RAM | 8 GB | Running Chrome with multiple tabs, spreadsheets, and screencasting software simultaneously | 16 GB if working with large datasets |
| Processor | Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 (8th gen or newer) | Data processing in tools like Screaming Frog can be CPU-intensive with larger sites | Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 for faster crawls |
| Storage | 256 GB SSD | You'll be downloading crawl data, storing backups, and caching tool data | 512 GB SSD for comfortable long-term use |
| Internet Speed | 25 Mbps download, 10 Mbps upload | Live sessions involve video streaming, screen sharing, and real-time collaboration | 50 Mbps+ for smoother experience |
| Browser | Chrome 120+, Firefox 120+, Edge 120+ | Most SEO extensions and tools are optimized for modern browsers | Chrome for best extension compatibility |
| Webcam | 720p | Optional for live sessions but helps with interactive discussions | 1080p for clearer video quality |
| Microphone | Built-in or basic headset | Essential for asking questions during live sessions | Dedicated headset reduces background noise |
Our Setup Verification Process
Initial System Check
We'll provide a simple diagnostic tool that checks your browser capabilities, connection speed, and basic system info. Takes about two minutes to run.
Software Installation
Walk through installing the essential tools we'll use throughout the program. Most are free versions that we'll help you configure properly.
Test Session
Join a 15-minute orientation where we test video, audio, and screen sharing. Better to sort out technical issues before the actual training starts.
Access Verification
Confirm you can access our learning platform, download materials, and submit assignments. We'll troubleshoot any access issues before day one.
Getting Your Environment Ready
Browser Setup
Install Chrome if you don't have it already. Then add these extensions: SEOquake for quick metrics, Detailed SEO Extension for on-page analysis, and Redirect Path for checking redirects. We'll use these constantly during exercises.
Google Account Configuration
Create a dedicated Google account for training if you prefer to keep things separate. You'll need access to Search Console, Analytics, and Google Sheets. We'll help you set up a practice property during the first week.
Communication Tools
Download the latest version of Zoom. Make sure you can share your screen and that your audio works properly. Test this before the first session so we're not troubleshooting during class time.
Workspace Organization
Create a dedicated folder structure for course materials, downloaded data, and project files. Sounds basic, but staying organized from day one saves a lot of headaches when you're juggling multiple assignments.
Backup Solution
Set up automatic backups for your work. Cloud storage like Google Drive or Dropbox works fine. You don't want to lose weeks of analysis work because of a hardware failure.
Software We'll Be Using
During the program, you'll work with Google Search Console, Google Analytics 4, Screaming Frog SEO Spider (free version for sites under 500 URLs), and various browser extensions. We'll provide detailed setup guides for each tool during orientation week.

Alternative Hardware Options
If your current setup doesn't quite meet the requirements, consider cloud-based solutions like Chrome Remote Desktop or remote workstations. Some students have successfully used tablets with keyboard attachments for lighter sessions, though full assignments are easier on a laptop or desktop.
